Preparing Your Quilt
For Longarm Services
You have finished your quilt, now what?
For us to do the best possible job in longarming your quilt we ask that you take a few extra steps to help us achieve the best results on your quilt.
Quilt Top
Before sending us your project for quilting, neatly iron the quilt top and trim all loose threads. Dark threads will show through white fabric if not trimmed prior to quilting. It works best if you try to flatten all bulky seams as much as possible. Check that the stitches are strong on your seams at the outside edges of your quilt. You can add a “stay stitch” 1/8 inch around your whole quilt top, which helps secure those outside edges.
Please have your top as square (or rectangular, as the case may be) as possible. This will facilitate proper longarm machine loading and successful quilting.
If your top is directional, please indicate that by pinning a note to the top.
Quilt Batting and Backing
Your quilt backing and batting must be at least 8 inches wider and longer than your quilt top (4 inches on each side).
For example, if your quilt top is 50″ x 65″, your backing and batting must be at least 58″ x 73″.
This is super important for loading your quilt on the longarm frame and allows my machine to reach all the areas that need to be quilted. We personally like to make my backing 10″ wider and longer than my quilt top, as it is a nice even number to remember.
When piecing your backing, it works best to remove selvages from the center seam. This will prevent the backing fabric from being tight in the center.
Please do your best to square up your quilt back so there are no uneven edges, corners are square and sides run parallel.
If your backing is directional, please indicate that by pinning a note to the top.

Turnaround Time, Payment Methods, & Shipping/Delivery
Turnaround Time
My schedule for longarming varies based on how many quilts we have ahead of yours. Feel free to reach out for my current time estimate, and once we receive your quilt, we can provide a more detailed time frame for when you can expect quilting to be completed.
Payment
We ask for a $25 deposit when shipping your quilt/dropping off your quilt.
We will require payment in full before we ship your quilt or before you pick it up. For shipped quilts, we accept PayPal or Venmo. Local customers also have the option to pay by cash or check.
Shipping
Postage is the responsibility of the client. We recommend mailing your quilts via the US Postal Service using Flat Rate boxes, which include tracking and $50 insurance in the cost. You also can ship via UPS or other carriers, but we always recommend adding insurance coverage when shipping.
When we are sending your quilt back to you, we will insure your package for at least the amount of the quilting charge. We can also add additional insurance as needed, just let us know before we mail it out.
Delivery
Delivery is available in the Greater Grand Rapids Metro Area with an additional delivery fee. Please sent us an email if you have questions about this option.
